Elaine Pettit

August 2, 1947 - August 18, 2023

Elaine Bryson Pettit, 76, of Mills River passed away on August 18, 2023. Born on August 2, 1947, in Henderson County, Elaine lived a life filled with love, joy, and compassion.

Elaine spent 20 years of her professional career as a mail carrier with the United States Postal Service, serving her community diligently and with a warm smile. Her commitment to her work was evident in the countless lives she touched and the friendships she forged along her mail routes.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Elaine had a passion for belonging to the Red Hat Ladies, where she found companionship and shared laughter with like-minded women. This community brought her great joy and enriched her life in immeasurable ways.

Elaine’s educational journey began at West Henderson High School, where she applied herself diligently and graduated with pride. She cherished the memories and friendships formed during her time there, carrying them with her throughout her life.

Elaine experienced both great love and loss throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jennings Bryan Pettit, her father Robert Bryson, her mother Aileen Sitton Bryson, her sister Sarah LaBerge, and her brothers Thomas, Forrest, and Arnold Bryson. Their spirits now embrace her warmly, guiding her onward in her eternal journey.

Left to cherish Elaine’s memory are her sons, Christopher Pettit and Josh Pettit along with his wife, Melissa. Elaine’s three grandchildren, Luke, Noah, and Olivia Pettit were the lights of her life, and she loved every moment spent with them. She also leaves behind her sister Marguarite McCraw and sister-in-law, Lynn Bryson, as well as numerous other beloved family members and friends who will forever hold her dear in their hearts.

A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate Elaine’s life will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Mills River United Methodist Church at 12:00 PM. Pastor Joe Precht will officiate the service, providing solace and comfort to those in attendance. Prior to the service, a visitation will take place one hour before the service, offering an opportunity for loved ones to share their memories and support one another. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Elaine’s honor may be made to Mills River United Methodist Church.

Elaine Bryson Pettit lived a life filled with joy, love, and dedication. She brought warmth and laughter to all those fortunate enough to know her. Although our hearts ache with her loss, we find solace in the memories she leaves behind. May she rest in eternal peace.

I got to know Elaine through our church as well as being the mother of one of my basketball players at West Henderson. I enjoyed keeping in touch with her by phone after she was unable to attend church in person due to health issues. She kept in touch with her church by watching the services on line. She also loved her family very much, especially her grandchildren. Anytime I talked with her she would have to mention something about them. I know they will miss her greatly, as will all of us who knew her. My prayers go out to Josh, Chris, Melissa, Luke, Noah, Olivia and the rest of the extended family.
