Gifts & Memorial Donations

Holding her daughter’s hand, Emily Bass Fox 78, died peacefully February 29th following a long illness.

Emily was born December 10, 1945 to the late Dr. and Mrs Beaty Bass of Rutherfordton, NC where she was reared, graduating R-S Central High School, Class of 1964. At UNC-G she earned a BA in education in 1968 and in mid-life, an additional BA in piano performace, with straight “A”s.

Moving to Hendersonville in 1974, she lived 50 years in this community she so loved. A founding member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, her piano accompanied the choir at the church’s first service and, then, for the insuing 30 years.

Emily’s creativity included native landscaping, famously sharing the Lenten Roses which grace many local yards today. She founded ’God’s Garden’ at Covenant, the ongoing beautification of the church grounds. Having a servant’s heart, Emily was involved in many activities in her church and community. Her prime focus was family and church. She faced, fought, and defeated the trials life presented with grace and determination.

Emily is survived by David, her husband of 54 years, who she put through law school, daughter Ginney Rector (husband Travis) and Granddaughter Hunter McDonald, of Hendersonville, and bonus granddaughters Paige Rector and Taylor Childress. Emily is also survived by her sisters Patsy Hope Mitchell (Johnny) and Virginia Tate (Michael), brother-in-law Jeff Fox (Suzanne), sister-in-law Shelley Hodges (Henry) as well as nieces and nephews. She is pre-deceased by her brother, Dr. Beaty Bass, Jr.

The family extends a special thanks to dear friend Diana Caldwell and the Covenant LOVE (Ladies Out Visiting Everywhere) group who faithfully held her close. The family acknowledges with affection and appreciation the staff at Heritage Hills Memory Care and Hospice for the love and care they provided during her last illnesses.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 8 at 2:00PM at Covenant Presbyterian Church, 2101 Kanuga Rd, Hendersonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Emily’s memory be made to Four Season’s Hospice.
