Helen Grace McCuen Bennett, 103, peacefully passed away on April 15, 2023 at her daughter and son-in-law’s home in Hendersonville, NC.

Helen was born in Ware Shoals, S.C. in 1919, to the late George and Lula (Davis) McCuen. She graduated from Ware Shoals High School and Winthrop College. After graduating she taught Home Economics before marrying the late James Morrell Bennett II. After her husband’s death, she became secretary at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, where she worked for 27 years. Helen loved her family, friends, bridge and sports.

She leaves behind a daughter, Jean Bennett Tody (Stephen) and a son, Leon McCuen (Buddy) Bennett. Another son, James (Jimmy) Morrell Bennett III preceded her in death. Helen was blessed with a large and loving family which included 7 grandchildren, Kell Bennett Culclasure (Todd), Carlie Bennett Snethen (Hector), Helen McCuen (Cuen) Bennett (Gaither Holly), Damian Morrell Tody (Kristin Williams), Stephen Kyle Tody, Chase Morrell Bennett, and Elizabeth Clark Bennett. One grandson, Bryon Ross Bennett preceded her in death. She enjoyed 9 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Sara, Matthew, Seth, Lola Grace, John Harper, Brayden, Avrey, Emmy and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Charlotte and William. One great-grandchild, Mettie McCuen Livingston, preceded her in death. Also, preceding her in death were a sister, Dorothy McCuen Hendrix (George Talmadge), a brother, George Lee McCuen (Joyce) and a sister-in-law, Jean Bennett Sieper (Armand).

A celebration of life service will be held April 23, 2023 at 3pm at Oakland Avenue Presbyterian Church, Rock Hill, SC.
