Max Grant, 91, of Mills River went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Elizabeth House. He was born in Bryson City on November 29, 1931, to Katie Meadows Grant and William Perry Grant.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by sister Doris G Gibson, and brothers Kenneth, Terrell, Bruce, and Robert (Bobby).
He served his country for two years, (Army) during the Korean Conflict.
He worked at Ecusta for 36 ½ years and retired in 1996.
He was an active member of Boylston Baptist Church and was the cemetery chairman for many years.
Foremost, from a young age, he was a farmer at heart. Over the years he raised beef cattle, tobacco, squash, hay, and bushels of garden vegetables. He was well known for his white corn meal and grits grinding.
He is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 66 years Helen Louise Grant. Sons Richard (Susan) Grant, of Conover; and Gene (Sara) Grant, of Etowah; and Daughter Lynn (Kevin) Blythe, of Etowah.
Grandchildren Allison B. Brown (Thomas), Andrew Blythe (Samantha), Seth Grant (Anna), and Lane Grant (Hannah). Six Great grandchildren: Lincoln, Kellen, Ashe, Cameron, Baker, and Isabelle. Sisters: Edwina Grant, Martha Hamlin, and Catherine Greene
Funeral service at Boylston Baptist Church, Saturday, November 4, 2023
Private family burial will be held at 11 a.m. at the graveside; Visitation 12:30-2 p.m. and Memorial service at 2 p.m.
Reverends Jimmy Burress, Todd Garren and Jacqueline Combs, Deacon presiding.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Broyhill Children’s Home, in Clyde NC.
