Paul “Laurie” Auten, 78, of Hendersonville, NC died late Sunday afternoon, March 12, 2023, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC following an extended illness.
Mr. Auten was born on Tuesday, July 18, 1944, in Charlotte, NC to the late Paul Craven and Esther Irene (Hartsell) Auten. On February 7, 1970, in Charlotte he married his loving wife of 53 years, the former Jackie Louise Moyle who survives. He proudly served his country in the Air National Guard and was honorably discharged after six years of service. He was a sales representative for pneumatic hydraulic equipment before retiring and was a faithful member of Mills River Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed golfing, movies, Formula 1 racing and his pets.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Jackie M. Auten of Hendersonville, NC and two children, his daughter, Erin A. Shope and her husband, Chris of Hendersonville, NC and his son, Nicholas P. Auten and his wife, Christina of Stone Mountain, GA; three young grandchildren, Silas, Olivia and Emmy; a twin brother, Larry C. Auten and his wife, Karen of Lawrenceville, GA and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved granddaughter, Salem Shope who died on January 5, 2010.
A graveside service for Mr. Auten was held at three o’clock Thursday afternoon, March 16, 2023, at the Forest Lawn West Cemetery in Charlotte, NC. A celebration of life service will be two o’clock Sunday afternoon, April 2, 2023 at Mills River Presbyterian Church, Mills River, NC.

“Laurie” as he was affectionately known will be forever missed by his loving and devoted family and many dear friends. May God Grant Him Eternal Rest.
