Robert Sherwood Johnson, known affectionately as Bob, passed away on October 13, 2023, in Hendersonville, NC, at the age of 75. He was born on February 25, 1948, in Greenwich, CT, to the late Charles Wilmer Johnson and Dorothea Mary Studwell. In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brother, Charles W Johnson Jr,. also known as Billy.
Bob was a loving son, brother, husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife of 48 years, Gail Elaine Johnson, his daughters, Tracy Johnson and spouse Nicholas Brough, and Kimberly Whynaucht and her husband Brian, his son Adam Johnson and his wife Emily, and his cherished grandchildren Landon, Lily, AnnaLee, Ansel, Lochlan, Hendrik, and Beatrice.
He will be dearly missed by his sisters Janice Caviola and husband Jon Caviola of Greenwich, CT; Candy Casey and her husband Richard Casey of Erwin, TN; Cindy Bailey and her husband Bob Bailey of Salem, SC; Pam Johnson and her husband Tom Bonvenuto of Salem, SC; sister-in-law Janet Johnson of Westlake Village, CA, and many other relatives and friends.
Bob had a strong educational background, having attended Greenwich High School, several universities, and later obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
After serving four dedicated years as a Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps, Bob was honorably discharged. He bravely served two tours in Viet Nam, where he earned numerous honors, including the Combat Action Ribbon. Bob’s commitment to his country was admirable and his service will not be forgotten.
Following his military service, Bob pursued a career in nursing and became a registered nurse. After many years of service in this field, he rediscovered his talent for painting. Bob excelled as a Master Painter, working for UBU Productions, several Hollywood stars, and the prestigious Four Seasons Hotel until his retirement.
A service to honor and celebrate Bob’s life will be held at 12:00 PM on Friday, November 3, 2023, at the Western North Carolina State Veteran’s Cemetery in Black Mountain, North Carolina.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions be made in the form of GreenChef.com gift cards for meal delivery service to his wife, Gail Johnson, as a way to support her during this extremely difficult time.
Bob will forever be remembered for his unwavering love and dedication to his family, his honorable military service, and his humorous, fun-loving nature. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him and will continue for generations to come.
