Gifts & Memorial Donations

Roseann Sarah Pflum, 89, of Hendersonville, NC, died Tuesday, March 12, 2024, in the loving care of the Heather Glen assisted living facility in Arden, NC.

Preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William J. Pflum, daughters Jeannine M. Smith and Carol-Jean Averett, and grandsons Elliott “Evan” Averett and Stephen Averett, she is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Wilder (Keith) of Palm Bay, FL, and Denise L. Robinson (Stephen) of Hendersonville, NC; a son, Peter A. Pflum (Anne) of Pendleton, SC; grandchildren Emmalene Robinson, Haley Pflum, Jessica Serpente, Matthew Smith and Jennifer Reeves; and five great-grandchildren.

Born in New York, NY on July 26, 1934 to Jacob and Jane Stubing, Roseann put her naturally kind and compassionate nature to good use, attending New York’s St. Vincent’s School of Nursing, and pursuing a career in nursing, which included a 15-year stint as a certified alcohol & drug counselor. While being justifiably proud of her career accomplishments, it was her role as best friend and mother to her five children that brought her the most joy.

As well as being an avid reader, Roseann loved to busy herself in the beautiful gardens she lovingly cultivated at her home in New Vernon, and later on in Rumson, in her beloved adopted state of New Jersey. She was also quite the music aficionado; her ability to quickly identify and name old standards and show tunes, even when improvised in jazzy instrumentals, was legendary. Blessed with a razor sharp wit, her sense of humor never deserted her. Her beautiful giggly laugh could light up any room with ease, and would continue to delight those around her, especially her caregiver friends who lovingly cared for her in her later years after her relocation to North Carolina in 2019. Her mischievous smile, kindness and generosity of spirit will be so greatly missed by her children, grandchildren, and all who came to know and love her.

A memorial service will be held at St. Catherine’s Church in Spring Lake, NJ at a later date.
