Rubin “Poppy” Fruchtman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023, in Tavares, FL. He was born on May 13, 1928, in the vibrant borough of Brooklyn, NY. Poppy lived a long and fulfilling life, leaving behind cherished memories for all who knew him.
Rubin is preceded in death by his loving wife, Marion Fruchtman. He is survived by his daughters, Gloria Berlin and her husband Arnie, of Arden, NC and Leah Service and her husband Jeff, of Sorrento, FL. He is also survived by his sons, Jeff Fruchtman and his wife Lisa, of Castle Rock, CO, and Barry Fruchtman and his wife Jayne, of The Villages, FL.
Poppy’s legacy lives on through his fifteen grandchildren: Dara McCabe (Jeff), Josh Fruchtman (Katie), Kayla Huff (Nathan), Meagan Scroggs (Tim), Cara Berlin (Cliff), Gabriel Berlin, Hannah Berlin, Jacob Fruchtman (Autumn), Rachel Uncapher (Andy), Jessica Fruchtman, Benjamin Service (Kim), Jordan Service, Talia Service, Shira Service, and Joelle Service. He was also blessed with twenty-two great-grandchildren: Jacob McCabe, Caroline McCabe, Molly McCabe, Eliza Fruchtman, Matthew Fruchtman, Everett Fruchtman, Lawson Huff, Andrew Huff, Ezra Scroggs, Leila Scroggs, Leo Scroggs, Adelaide Mori, Willa Berlin Mori, Eden Fruchtman, Liam Uncapher, Oliver Uncapher, Emmet Uncapher, Harper Uncapher, Juliana Service, Michael Service, Ariana Service, and Gila Service.
He is survived by his sister, Rosie Frenkiel of Brooklyn, NY, and his brother, Julius Fruchtman, also of Brooklyn, NY. He leaves behind a multitude of nieces and nephews, all of whom were touched by his kindness throughout the years.
A funeral service honoring Rubin’s life will be held at 10:30 AM on Sunday, July 30, 2023, Church Street Funeral & Cremation with Pastor Charlie Bass officiating. Following the funeral service, a graveside service will take place at Shepherd Memorial Park.
Rubin will forever be remembered for his love and devotion to his family. His warm smile, fun loving spirit and unwavering love touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed, but his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
